Resize Any Picture to 1920x1080

1920 x 1080 pixels is Full HD, also called 1080p: the screen size of most laptops, desktop monitors and TVs, and the frame of a standard YouTube or presentation video. A photo that has to fill such a screen, a wallpaper, a video still, a slide background or a streaming overlay, has to be exactly this size, in the 16:9 shape.

Open one image or pick many at once. The size boxes already say 1920 x 1080, the preview shows what the file will look like, and Download gives you a picture that is exactly 1920 pixels wide and 1080 pixels high, named after the original with -1920x1080 added (holiday.jpg becomes holiday-1920x1080.jpg).

Crop to Fill, Fit Inside or Stretch

Most photos are not 16:9. A phone photo is 4:3 or 3:4, a camera photo 3:2, a screenshot something else again. There are three honest ways to get them into a 1920 x 1080 frame, and the Mode switch picks one:

Crop to fill is the default. The picture is scaled until it covers the whole frame and the parts that stick out are cut away. The preview shows the whole photo with the part that stays lit up and the rest dimmed. Drag the lit window, or tap where it should go, to choose what stays: keep a face at the top of a portrait, the horizon of a landscape, the left side of a group photo. Every image in a batch keeps its own crop position, so pick each thumbnail and set it.

Fit inside keeps the whole picture and fills the empty strips at the sides or the top and bottom with a background: white, black, any colour from the picker, or transparent. Transparent needs a format that stores it, so a JPG with a transparent background is saved as a PNG.

Stretch pulls the picture to exactly 1920 x 1080 without cutting anything. Nothing is lost, but a photo whose shape is far from 16:9 will look squashed, so it is best kept for pictures that are almost the right shape already.

Many Images at Once

Add as many pictures as you like with the + tile after the thumbnails. Each one gets the same size and mode, and each keeps its own crop. With two or more, Download as offers a single ZIP, separate images (the share sheet on a phone, so they go straight to your photos) or, in Chrome and Edge on a computer, a folder you choose, where every file is written directly. The pictures are resized one after another, so a batch of big phone photos does not run out of memory.

Format, Quality and Sharpness

Every file keeps its own format by default: a JPG stays a JPG, a PNG stays a PNG, a WebP stays a WebP. The menu beside Download converts them all to JPG, PNG or WebP instead, and the Quality slider sets the JPG and WebP quality. Pictures are resampled with a Lanczos filter, so a 12 MP photo shrunk to 1920 x 1080 stays crisp, and phone photos are turned the right way up before anything is measured. A picture that is already 1920 x 1080 in the format you asked for is handed back untouched.

Need a different size? Type it into the width and height boxes, or open a page made for it: 2560x1440, 3840x2160 (4K), 1280x720, 1080x1920 for phone stories, or 1080x1080 for a square post. To resize by percentage or keep each photo's own shape, use Batch Resize; for one picture with every option, Resize Image.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I resize an image to 1920x1080 without stretching it?

Keep the mode on Crop to fill. The picture is scaled to cover the frame and the overflow is trimmed, so nothing is squashed; drag the lit window in the preview to choose which part stays. If nothing may be cut, choose Fit inside instead and pick a background for the empty strips.

Can I resize a small picture up to 1920x1080?

Yes. The output is always exactly 1920 x 1080, so a smaller picture is enlarged to fill it. Enlarging cannot add detail that was never there, so a very small picture will look soft at full screen.

What aspect ratio is 1920x1080?

16:9, the widescreen shape of HD video, most monitors and TVs. 1280 x 720, 2560 x 1440 and 3840 x 2160 have the same shape, so a picture cropped for one of them fits the others without another cut.

Is my image uploaded?

No. Every picture is decoded, resized and saved by your own browser, and nothing is sent to a server.
