Resize a Picture to 1080x1920 for Full-Screen Vertical

1080 x 1920 pixels is Full HD turned on its side: a tall 9:16 frame that fills a phone held upright. It is the size commonly recommended for Instagram Stories and Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Facebook Stories, and a popular size for a phone wallpaper or lock screen. Anything meant to be seen full screen on a phone, a story slide, a vertical cover image, a poster for a status update, starts here.

Open a picture or a whole set. The size boxes read 1080 x 1920, the preview shows the tall frame, and Download saves an image exactly 1080 pixels wide and 1920 high, with -1080x1920 added to the name (holiday.jpg becomes holiday-1080x1920.jpg).

Fitting Photos Into a Tall Frame

Even a vertical phone photo is usually 3:4, noticeably wider than 9:16, and a horizontal photo is the opposite shape altogether. The Mode switch chooses how the picture meets the frame:

Crop to fill, the default, scales the photo until it covers the whole frame and trims the rest. For a vertical phone photo only the sides are shaved; a horizontal photo keeps a narrow upright slice, so where that slice sits matters. The preview shows the whole photo with the kept part lit and the rest dimmed - drag the lit window, or tap the spot, to keep the person, the building or the dish you care about. Each image in a batch has its own crop position; pick its thumbnail to set it.

Fit inside keeps every pixel of the photo and fills the space above and below with white, black, a colour from the picker, or transparency. A horizontal picture then sits as a band across the middle of the screen, which is a common way to share a wide shot as a story while leaving room to add text in the app. A JPG with a transparent background is saved as PNG, because JPG cannot hold transparency.

Stretch makes the image exactly 1080 x 1920 by changing its proportions. Faces and circles will look long and thin unless the picture was close to 9:16 already, so the other two modes are usually better.

Leave Room for the App

Story and short-video apps lay their own buttons, profile name and caption over the top and bottom of the screen, and the right side often carries like and share icons. When you crop, keep faces and any text away from the very edges of the frame so the app does not cover them. As a wallpaper, 1080 x 1920 may be trimmed at the sides on newer phones with taller screens, so the middle of the picture is the safe place for the subject.

Batches and Formats

The + tile after the thumbnails adds more pictures; a set of story slides all come out the same size, each with its own crop. With two or more, Download as gives a ZIP, separate images (on a phone that opens the share sheet) or, in Chrome and Edge on a computer, a folder you choose. Files keep their format - JPG, PNG or WebP - unless you pick another in the menu beside Download, where the Quality slider also lives. Lanczos resampling keeps detail crisp, phone photos are set upright first, and a file already 1080 x 1920 in the asked format is handed back unchanged.

Need a different size? Type it into the boxes, or open 1080x1350 for a portrait feed post, 1080x1080 for a square, 1920x1080 for the same size lying flat, or 1280x720 for a smaller widescreen frame. For one picture with every option, use Resize Image.

Frequently Asked Questions

What aspect ratio is 1080x1920?

9:16, the tall version of the 16:9 widescreen shape. Divide both sides by 120 and you get 9 and 16.

How do I fit a horizontal photo into a story without cropping it?

Choose Fit inside. The whole photo is kept at full width and the space above and below is filled with the colour you choose, or left transparent.

Is 1080x1920 good for a phone wallpaper?

It is a common wallpaper size and looks sharp on most phones. Many recent phones have screens taller than 9:16, so the phone may crop a little from the sides to fill the display.

Are my images sent anywhere?

No. Everything happens inside your browser, so your pictures stay on your device.
