A Picture Sized for 1440p Screens

2560 x 1440 pixels is QHD, also written WQHD or 1440p, and sometimes loosely called 2K. It is a very common resolution for 27-inch desktop monitors, many gaming monitors and some laptops. It sits between Full HD and 4K: about 1.8 times the pixels of 1920 x 1080, in the same 16:9 widescreen shape.

A wallpaper for such a monitor looks its best when it matches the screen pixel for pixel, with no scaling by the system and no black bars. This page turns any photo, screenshot or artwork into exactly 2560 x 1440, ready to set as a desktop background, use as a still in a 1440p video or show full screen.

Crop to Fill, Fit Inside or Stretch

Few photos are 16:9 to begin with. A phone photo is 4:3 (or 3:4 held upright), most cameras shoot 3:2, and screenshots come in every shape. The Mode switch sets how the picture meets the 2560 x 1440 frame.

Crop to fill is the default and the usual pick for wallpapers. The picture is scaled until it covers the frame, and the overflow is cut. In the preview the part that stays is lit and the rest is dimmed; drag the lit window or tap a spot to move it. On a wallpaper, think about where your desktop icons sit and keep the subject away from that side.

Fit inside shows the whole picture, with strips at the sides or top and bottom filled in white, black, a colour from the picker, or transparent. It works well for a portrait photo or a piece of artwork you do not want trimmed; black strips blend into a dark desktop. A JPG given a transparent background is saved as a PNG.

Stretch pulls the image to exactly 2560 x 1440 without cropping, so proportions change. Keep it for images that are nearly 16:9 already, where the difference will not show.

One Photo or a Whole Wallpaper Set

To build a rotating wallpaper folder, open all the pictures at once or add more with the + tile after the thumbnails. They all get the same size and mode, and each keeps its own crop; tap a thumbnail to set its position. With two or more, Download as gives a ZIP, separate images (the share sheet on a phone), or, in Chrome and Edge on a computer, a folder you pick where every file is written.

Every file keeps its format unless you choose another in the menu beside Download: JPG, PNG or WebP, with a Quality slider for JPG and WebP. Names follow the original with -2560x1440 added, so lake.png becomes lake-2560x1440.png. Resampling uses a Lanczos filter, so large camera photos shrink cleanly, and phone photos are turned upright before resizing. A picture that is already 2560 x 1440 in the chosen format comes back untouched. Smaller pictures are enlarged to fill the frame, which cannot add detail, so start from the biggest copy you have.

Need a different size? Type any width and height, or open a page made for it: 1920x1080 for Full HD, 3840x2160 for 4K, 3440x1440 for 34-inch ultrawides, or 1280x720 for HD. For one picture with every option, use Resize Image.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 2560x1440 the same as 2K?

People often call it 2K, but the terms are loose. The precise names are QHD, WQHD or 1440p. Cinema 2K is 2048 x 1080, a different size.

What aspect ratio is 2560x1440?

16:9, the same as 1920 x 1080 and 3840 x 2160. A photo cropped here fits those screens too without another cut.

My monitor is 3440x1440. Will this work?

A 3440 x 1440 ultrawide is the same height but much wider, so a 2560 x 1440 wallpaper would be stretched or shown with bars. Use the 3440x1440 page for that screen.

Are my pictures sent anywhere?

No. They are read, resized and saved by your own browser; nothing is uploaded.
