Wallpapers for Ultrawide Monitors

3440 x 1440 pixels is the resolution of most 34-inch ultrawide monitors, often labelled UWQHD. It has the same height as a 1440p screen but about a third more width, in a ratio of 43:18 (roughly 2.39:1), which monitor makers sell as "21:9". Ordinary 16:9 wallpapers do not fit such a screen: the system either stretches them, crops them unpredictably, or leaves bars at the sides.

Resize a picture to exactly 3440 x 1440 and it covers an ultrawide desktop edge to edge, pixel for pixel. The same size works for a wide banner on a website or a panoramic header, wherever a very wide, fairly short image is needed.

The Crop Matters Most Here

A 21:9 frame is far wider than any normal photo. From a 3:2 camera photo, Crop to fill keeps the full width but under two thirds of the height; from a 4:3 phone photo, a band of just over half. So where that band sits decides the whole picture.

Crop to fill is the default. The photo is scaled to cover the frame and the top and bottom are cut. The preview shows the whole photo with the kept band lit and the rest dimmed; drag it up or down, or tap where it should be, to hold a horizon, a mountain ridge or a city skyline in the frame. Landscapes and panoramas suit this size best, portraits least.

Fit inside keeps the whole picture and fills the wide strips left and right with white, black, a colour from the picker, or transparent. A portrait photo on black leaves most of the screen dark, which some people like behind their windows. A JPG with a transparent background is saved as a PNG.

Stretch forces the picture to 3440 x 1440 with nothing cut. On a normal photo the difference in shape is large and people will look wide, so keep it for images that are already panoramic.

Several Wallpapers at Once

Open a set of photos together or add more with the + tile after the thumbnails. All get the same size and mode, and each keeps its own crop band; tap a thumbnail to place it. With two or more, Download as offers a ZIP, separate images (the share sheet on a phone), or, in Chrome and Edge on a computer, a folder you pick where each file is written directly.

Files keep their own format unless you choose JPG, PNG or WebP in the menu beside Download, with a Quality slider for JPG and WebP. Names get -3440x1440 added, so fjord.jpg becomes fjord-3440x1440.jpg. Pictures are resampled with a Lanczos filter, and phone photos are turned upright first. A file already 3440 x 1440 in the chosen format comes back unchanged. A smaller picture is enlarged to fill the frame, and enlarging cannot add detail, so a wide, sharp original gives the best wallpaper.

Need a different size? Type your own width and height, or open a page made for it: 2560x1440 for regular 1440p monitors, 3840x2160 for 4K, 1920x1080 for Full HD, or 1500x500 for another very wide banner. For a single picture with every option, use Resize Image.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 3440x1440 really 21:9?

Not exactly. 3440 x 1440 reduces to 43:18, about 2.39:1, while true 21:9 is about 2.33:1. The name "21:9" is how monitor makers describe the class, and 3440 x 1440 is the usual resolution in it.

Why does my 16:9 wallpaper look wrong on an ultrawide?

It is the wrong shape: a 16:9 picture on a 43:18 screen is either stretched sideways or cut at the top and bottom by the system. Resizing it here lets you choose the crop yourself.

Which photos work best at 3440x1440?

Wide landscapes, panoramas and cityscapes, where the interest runs across the picture. A tall portrait loses most of its height with Crop to fill; try Fit inside with a dark background instead.

Do my photos get uploaded?

No. The whole job runs inside your browser tab, and the files stay on your device.
