Resize a Photo to 1080x1350 for a Portrait Post

1080 x 1350 pixels is the portrait size commonly recommended for an Instagram feed post. Its shape is 4:5: a little taller than wide, which takes up more of the screen in someone's feed than a square does while still showing the whole post without scrolling. That extra height is why many photographers and brands post in 4:5 by default.

Open one photo or a set of them. The size boxes start at 1080 x 1350, the preview shows the tall frame, and Download saves a picture exactly 1080 pixels wide and 1350 high, named after the original with -1080x1350 added (holiday.jpg becomes holiday-1080x1350.jpg).

Getting a Photo Into 4:5

A vertical phone photo is usually 3:4, which is close to 4:5 - only a thin slice at the top or bottom has to go. A horizontal photo is a different story: to become 4:5 it loses a lot of its width. The Mode switch sets how the difference is handled:

Crop to fill, the default, scales the photo to cover the frame and trims what sticks out. The preview shows the whole photo with the part that stays lit and the rest dimmed. Drag the lit window, or tap where it should go, to decide what is kept: for a vertical shot, whether to lose a bit of sky or a bit of floor; for a horizontal one, which person or which side of the view survives. In a batch each image keeps its own crop, so pick its thumbnail to set it.

Fit inside keeps the entire picture and fills the spare space with white, black, any colour from the picker, or transparency. A landscape photo posted this way sits in a band across the middle with colour above and below - a common look for wide shots that should not be cut. Transparent needs a format that can store it, so a JPG with a transparent background is saved as PNG.

Stretch makes the picture exactly 1080 x 1350 without cropping. It changes the proportions, so a 3:4 phone photo stretches only slightly, but a landscape would look badly squeezed.

A Whole Carousel at Once

Add every slide with the + tile after the thumbnails. They all come out at 1080 x 1350 in the same mode, each with its own crop, so the slides line up when someone swipes through. With two or more, Download as offers a ZIP, separate images (on a phone, the share sheet) or, in Chrome and Edge on a computer, a folder you choose.

Formats and Detail

Each file keeps its format unless you pick JPG, PNG or WebP in the menu beside Download, and the Quality slider sets the JPG and WebP quality. The resizing uses Lanczos resampling, so a large phone photo brought down to 1080 x 1350 stays sharp, and phone photos are turned upright from their orientation tag first. A file already 1080 x 1350 in the asked format is returned as it was.

Need a different size? Enter it in the width and height boxes or use a page made for it: 1080x1080 for a square post, 1080x1920 for Stories and Reels, 1200x1200 for a larger square, or 1200x630 for a link preview image. To keep each photo's own shape, use Batch Resize.

Frequently Asked Questions

What aspect ratio is 1080x1350?

4:5. Divide both sides by 270 and you get 4 and 5. It is the same shape as an 8x10 inch print, so a photo framed for one fits the other.

Should I use 1080x1350 or 1080x1080 for Instagram?

Both are common. The 4:5 portrait fills more of the feed, which suits people and vertical scenes; a square suits product shots and graphics. For a carousel, all slides should share one size.

Can I turn a horizontal photo into 1080x1350 without cropping it?

Yes: choose Fit inside. The whole photo is kept, and the space above and below is filled with the colour you pick.

Are my pictures uploaded?

No. They are opened, resized and saved by your browser on your own device, with nothing sent to a server.
