512 x 512 pixels is a 1:1 square and the standard size for a surprising number of small graphics. WhatsApp stickers are 512 x 512, and a 512-pixel square is a valid size for a Telegram sticker too. A web app that can be installed to a phone's home screen (a PWA) lists a 512 x 512 icon in its manifest, the store listing icon on Google Play is 512 x 512, and many sites ask for a 512-pixel square when you upload a logo, a server icon or a profile badge.
Open one picture or a whole set of them. The size boxes already read 512 x 512 and the preview shows the square as it will be saved. Download gives you a file exactly 512 pixels on each side, named after the original with -512x512 added: cat.png becomes cat-512x512.png.
Icons and stickers usually want a clear background, so the mode you pick matters more here than for a photo.
Fit inside keeps the whole picture and fills the leftover space with a background of your choice. For stickers and icons pick Transparent: the empty bands stay see-through, and a PNG or WebP that was already cut out keeps its transparent edges, so the sticker floats on the chat instead of sitting on a box. White, black and any colour from the picker are there for icons that need a solid tile. A JPG cannot store transparency, so a JPG given a transparent background is saved as a PNG. Fit inside does not remove a photo's own background; a regular photo stays a rectangle inside the square.
Crop to fill scales the picture until it covers the square and trims the overflow. It is the one for turning a photo into an icon or an avatar-style square. The preview shows the whole picture with the kept square lit and the rest dimmed; drag the lit square, or tap where it should go, to frame the subject. Each picture in a batch keeps its own crop, so pick its thumbnail to adjust it.
Stretch pulls the picture to 512 x 512 with nothing cut. A logo drawn nearly square survives it; anything else looks squashed.
Add a whole sticker pack or icon set with the + tile after the thumbnails; each gets the same size and mode. With two or more, Download as offers one ZIP, separate images (the share sheet on a phone) or, in Chrome and Edge on a computer, a folder you choose where every file is written directly.
Each file keeps its format by default: JPG stays JPG, PNG stays PNG, WebP stays WebP. The menu beside Download converts everything to JPG, PNG or WebP; WhatsApp stickers are WebP files, so choose WebP there when you are making them. The Quality slider sets JPG and WebP quality. The resizing uses a Lanczos filter, which keeps the outlines of drawings and lettering clean, and phone photos are turned upright from their EXIF orientation first. A file that is already 512 x 512 in the format you chose is returned untouched.
Need another size? Type it into the boxes, or open a page made for it: 400x400 for profile pictures, 600x600 for thumbnails, 1080x1080 for a square post, or 1200x1200 for a larger square. For one picture with every option, use Resize Image.
Start from a PNG or WebP whose background is already cut out. Choose Fit inside, set the background to Transparent, and pick WebP in the menu beside Download if the sticker is for WhatsApp. The picture is centred in the square and everything around it stays see-through.
JPG has no way to store transparency. When a JPG is given a transparent background, it is saved as a PNG so the see-through parts survive. Choose a solid background, or JPG in the format menu, if you need a JPG file.
Yes, a smaller picture is enlarged to fill the square. Enlarging cannot add detail, so a tiny logo will look soft at 512 pixels; start from the largest version of the logo you have.
No. Your browser resizes and saves every file on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server.
